Ideas

We have had many ideas in the past such as a couple falling out, then a lesbian couple falling out then we finally changed it to our final one which was friends falling out over a man. We have also had many ideas for songs, locations and even actors to involve apart from our main ones.

I was an effective particapator here because i had to work with others to produce the right bits for different sections capture such as
project proposal, storyboards.

Evaluation

We did have a few problems:

  • the weather - this was not our fault but to avoid it we could have filmed a bit earlier in the year or a week or two earlier.

  • the location - this was because the actresses we used couldn't have more than an hour here and there to film with us therefore we couldn't find a better location than we had for the amount of time we were given.

Our successes were everything else but the main one was the editing because i was able to put the narrative into place well on the timeline according to the song and my partner bi was able to add all the effects so it really worked well together.

We have worked really well together I think because we both have different skills to put together to make a good project. We could have planned a bit earlier and worked things out because we kind of left it a bit late but not too late. Apart from that I think we put 100% effort in it .

I had a few external factors that effected my work such as football on weekends so I couldn't do certain times on those days and also the actresses couldn't do certain times either so we didn't have a lot of time.

I think people might respond really well to our promotional as i think it is really creative and really blends with our song and artist that we chose.

I think I would definitely be able to use the skills and effects i used in Final Cut Pro. Also the techniques i used in filming and photoshop. Everything really i have learnt so much in this project and that's why i enjoyed it.

I have been in independant enquirer here because I had to work by myself and think over what I personally have done.

History of photography

I have now finished my essay on history of photography. I have included these sections:
  • History of photography
  • Past practitioner (louis daguerre)
  • Present practitioner (Nick Knight)
  • Timeline
  • Overall Summary
  • Bibliography

Here are some quotes from my essay:

  1. 'I think socialand cultural developments has influenced photography because we are able to see what happens in different parts of the world and how people live there lives differently to others.'
  2. 'A man called George Eastmen invented the first film camera and made the company kodak .... The slogan he used was ' you press the button , we do the rest.'
  3. 'I think technlogy has improved technology because we can choose whether how we want our picture at a touch of a button, whether it is black or white or colour or special effects added.'

History of Photgraphy

I have nearly finished this part of capture. I have decided to compare these two photographers:
Nick Knight and Louis Daguerre.
So far I have gone through the past to now of photography. I have also added a timeline to back this up. I have done a general summary of the history of photography. Mainly though I have focused on comparing Nick Knight's work and Louis Daguerre's work and how he influenced Nick Knight. Also the techniques and technologies used then and now and how we have got technology that we have got these days.
I have also put a bibliography in my journal to show the sources I have used

Reflection

Now we have nearly finished our music video, it just needs a few more bits and peices. I think so far it has gone quite well and has progressed alot in this last week. I am also quiter pleased how much better it looks when just adding a few simple effects to it. Now it is starting to look kind of professional. We've had a few problems such as getting actresses/actors and locations to get the right feeling to the video. Also getting the right narrative to go with the lyrics. I think the editing has been the most successful part as we are able to do it in our own time and make it how we want professionaly. I think our strengths are the effects been added to the video because it just transforms the whole video from amateur to starting professionaly. I think the weaknesses was the filming because we wasn't able to get the shots that we would like. This was because of many things such as weather but mainly time as the actors only had an hour free here and there. Overall i think the video is going very well.

Please add your comments here.

Music video continued

We have now finished filming and have started to edit it in Final Cut Pro. We haven't done alot to it yet apart from putting about half in the right order and timing acording to the storyboard. We haven't added any effects yet but will do later on hopefully once we've finished timing and laying out the video correctly.

I had to be an effective particapator here because we all had to work together to finish filming and completing it on final cut pro.

Filming

We have recently done some filming a couple of days ago on our music video.

We have done about half of it and we are going to do the rest this friday.

We have filmed all the parts in the theatre and we just have all the outside to do which we are going to do on friday hopefully if the weather is nice and has stopped raining.

I had to be a teamworker here because I was working with my partner to find the right locations and timings to make our music video right.

Locations we are going to use for our music video

Here are some ideas for locations we would like to use in our video.
I have put a creative thinker post it note here because I think we had to think creatively to find the particular locations we wanted to use.

Health and Safety when Filming

When filming you need to follow to some rules. Here they are below:

Location:
You shouldn't film in a public place without consent from the police.

Hazards:
Don't film anywhere which could harm people or the equipment. For exmple: - on the beach(sand in camera.)
- Or in lakes and rivers because people could drown or equipment damaged.

Privacy:
Don't film anyone you don't know.

Props:
Do not use props that could scare or worry the public such as weapons etc.

Interviewing:
Do not interview people under 18 without parent's and teacher's consent or interview people who don't wish to be interviewed.

Care of cameras / equipment:
Do not do anything to harm / damage or loose the equipment.

Acting appropriately:
Make sure you act appropriately with equipment so that you don't cause alarm to public.
I put this post it here because I think I had to work by myself and evaluate a situation of filming outside and explore issues and everyone's perspective.

Photography (Creative Media) - Capture

For this part of capture we have to compare and contrast two photographers one from past and one from present. To present this I will put this in my blog and adapt it into my journal so it blends in with my A/S work. The two photographers I have chosen to use are called Louis Daguerre and

We started this project today and so far I have found out that a camera obscurer is a Latin word for a darkened room or darkened object. A Camera Obscurer works by a dark box or room with a small hole letting light through which then projects an image onto a surface. It is produced on the surface upside down and back to front. It is used to produce images of objects.

A daguerreotype is an early type of photograph produced by Louis Daguerre. A daguerreotype is a picture taken straight onto a mirrored piece of metal. When a portrait of a person has been taken this way it looks as though they are right there, even though they could have died 100 years ago. Its so amazing how it looks like that.

Lyrics

Here are the lyrics to the song we have chosen to use for music video. We got some ideas from the song itself and the video:

Making my video - continued

We have found a technique we would love to use in our video called ducking which is used for many media topics such as radio (when they talk about a song over it playing) or when a film is advertised and they use a track from it while they use some dialog from the film over the top then it would end with just hearing a track for a few seconds louder. Here is a song that uses this technique by F.I.R which is called 'Our love'.

Project Proposal

Title of Project: Creating a music video
Title of Song: Timbaland - Apologize
Resources: Camera, Tripods, Tapes, Crew, Locations, Props.
Location: College
Crew: Me, biyan and actors/actresses.
Target Audience: My video will be aimed at mainly teenagers aged 10-20. Also probably mainly females as it is quite a slow song. The people who would listen to this song would probably typical teenagers who like hanging out with their friends and texting and reading magazines.
the type of people would be watching my video would be the same type of people who would watch Timbaland's video. I would attract them by making the video quick but interesting at the same time.
Narrative: Our narrative we have decided to use is the following:
It is about a girl writing a letter to her best friend apologizing for seeing someone she likes. At the same time she writes a letter saying she doesn't want to know her for this reason. We would then film them exchanging letters but she doesn't believe her but at the same point we see that she realizes she wants things to get back how they used to be with her. She then goes and sits on the steps and thinks whether she wants to accept her apology and trust her again. We would then film her saying sorry. The next scene would be Alex throwing drink a charlii, charlii would struggle to open her drink, Alex would laugh then we would hug and walk off linking arms and laughing together.
We have decided to change our idea for a narrative slightly because when we researched the lyrics our first narrative did not adapt to them. We have still decided to use the same locations though as they still fit in with our new narrative but we might add a few more locations such as a park or town but we are still unsure yet.
I think I am a creative thinker here because we both had to think creatively about what we wanted in our video in terms of narrative, locations etc.

Making my video

We have chose to make a video to the song Apologise by Timberland. We are going to make a narrative to this song. So far we have come up with a few different ideas for our video in terms of locations, props, and narratives.

Our first narrative idea was about two people having an argument. At the start of the video we show them upset and they are trying to write a letter apologizing to each other.( In this shot we would have them screwing up rough letters in different rooms. Then the next scene we would see the argument. The next scene after that we would see them talking to each other but with a bit annoyance in the air. For the final scene we see the couple lying down and we would hear them say a promise never to break up or argue with each other.
Here are a few ideas for locations we could use in the video:
The theatre we have in the college because it is black and we are going for a dark effect. Maybe a hill looking at the sky for a romantic effect or with a seaview. Maybe a red room while they are arguing to portray anger, and maybe a studio to show shots of artist singing, a street. ( Different shot each chorus. )

I had to be a relective learner here because we had to look at other artist's work to give us ideas to use in our work.

Evaluation of my presentation

This week I have done my presentation in media. I think it went well overall but I also found it quite difficult because I do not enjoy speaking in front of people for long periods of time. I think it went well because I gained some confidence in talking in front of people so it will be a bit easier next time I have to do a presentation.

Type of shots

I have looked at some music videos and shots that I like from Abba's video 'Waterloo' and here are some shots that I would like to use in my music video that I will make later on in the year:

This type of shot is called a close up. This means that it is a shot of his head. I like this shot because I think it is framed alright but they accidentally cut off a bit of his head in it.

This shot is called a crane shot. This means that they put the camera on a crane and move it so you can see the artist/performer from above. I probably wont be able to use this in my music video but i think it was quite skillful in this period of time.

This type of shot is called a profile shot. This means that you can see these two women from the side. i like this shot because you can see them both really clearly.

Photography

I have learnt alot in Photography. Lately I have been learning how to make photograms and projection prints in the darkroom. I have really enjoyed this as I find it really creative and you never get two pictures the same. I also started to add colour in the last two weeks which I did through Photoshop.Text Colour

Research - week 5

This week in Media I have been starting to research about Michel Gondry and his style of music videos. I have also started to make a presentation to compare Lasse Hallstrom's and Michel Gondry's music videos. In this presentation I will also present the techniques and technology used in each video to compare them to each other. This is the start of our project called Capture which for our pathway is about making music videos. Very soon I hope to actually start making promotional materials for a band or artist.

I think I was a self manager here because I had to research and plan what I was going to use in my presentation.

Hardware (Outside Computer)
-Audio interface
- Input (Micleads / Jack lead)
(Guitar / bass)
- Set gain (to correct level - just hitting yellow)

Signal level
Microphones

plug in to wall socket in live room then follow through to control room then plug into audio interface then it goes to computer.

Software (Inside Computer)

Logic
-create track
-select input
-enable recording on the track

First Post

hello
This is my first post. This week I have been upto quite alot of different things like photography, starting to create a music video and some other things. In photography I have made some pictures in the dark room which I found quite interesting and fun. I have also started to analyse some films.
